TUNE OF THE DAY // Sir Own - Hooked (Kons Nite Time Remix)

The day has finally arrived, well it actually arrived last month but I've been slow on the uploads of late. Kons remix of the French disco drumming legend Cerrone's, 'hooked on you' is here! Originally released in 1981 and featuring Jocelyn Brown the tune swings back and forth with beautiful bass strings that vibrate your innards....check it.

The tune has been layered over clips taken from the hotly debated 1975 film, Coonskin. Never watched it but definitely will be after reading some of the reviews.

A rusty old engine, 11 months, 3000 photos and a serious amount of work on Premiere Pro and this is what you get...

I was lucky enough to hear this sumptuous summer time tune on the radio today and immediately stopped all the hard work I was doing to find out who Benjamin Schoos was. Belgium born Schoos has his hands in pretty much every musical and creative pie possible. Not only does he make swaying orchestrated pop music but he also writes for other artists, writes fanzines, hosts TV shows, runs his own label, Freaksville Records and even composed Belgium's 2009 Eurovision song contest entry, Copycat. For those of you that were wondering who provides the smooth Francophile vocals look no further than Stereolab's very own Laetitia Sadier.   

OK, now imagine that you've got your contrast pocket top on and your cycling a penny farthing around the streets of Paris with this on your ipod.....I am, and it's great!

PICTURES // LIFE IN & AROUND THE NY SUBWAYS, 1980

Yeah I bought a big flashy camera and yeah I was expecting amazing photos to start whizzing out the Snappy Snap printers. Instead I ended up with thousands of the same average photos I was taking before but now I'm able to blow them up to the size of a billboard....result. 

I'm forever flicking through photo books in awe and trawling the tinternet looking for my next coffee table coaster when I stumbled across a fellow blogger who's written a nice piece about the photographers that managed to capture the deep and dark life that lived below NY in the subways. The blog highlights a photographer called Bruce Davidson who turns out to be a total geezer! Wandering the streets of Oak Park, Illinos aged 10, Bruce was developing photos in his Mum's basement before my first memory! He went on to hone his future trade with a local photographer and his talents didn't go unnoticed when being drafted into the US army which lead to him secure a full time job at his postings paper. Now a full time member of the illustrious international photographic cooperative, Magnum Photos.  

I would suggest buying any of his many books but a must is his works on the NY subway titled, Subway. I've added a few of my favourites below. Choo choo

Santi White who goes by the name of Santigold but was formerly know as Santogold is at it again. With the release of her 2nd album 'Master of Make Believe' last week, the 2 bears have taken the 'disparate youth' track and whacked some of their usual bear funk and bass onto the song.

WALTHAMSTOW // CELEBRITIES THAT LOOK LIKE MATTRESSES

Yes that's right, you did read the title correctly. In an effort to boost peoples perception of the northeast London borough and birthplace of the incessant 'dench' shouting Lethal Bizzle, Walthamstow's (unofficial) Toursit Board have taken it upon themselves to get people liking they're town and have started a Facebook page....which is fair enough. The page is decent for a few laughs but the 'celebrities that look like mattresses' section is beyond genius and is actually quite good. My favourite is below but go check them all out because they gave me a proper belly a shake.

We've also got some snazzy threads and if anyone's got a matresses that looks like any of them...... then sheeit!

It's been awhile since I've had the pleasure of reading the Mail but a 10 minute hail shower earlier today prompted such action. Once again it only took about 2 seconds before I stumbled across some proper ground breaking news, "Creating a stink: German invents toilet paper bearing a picture of Hitler's face". 

OK, I give it to the 'inventor', he's created a pretty innovative product, the only problem I can see with it is that it only comes to life when you've taken a fresh dump, wiped your hairy arse with precision and then peered behind to take a look and no doubt you'll need to take a photo of your artwork and send it to a mate for maximum effect. Go on, it's only £3 a roll.

FRIEKE // SMOKING KIDS

Smoking is definitely becoming less acceptable around my leafy neighbourhood but it seems anywhere else in the world that I visit the addiction is still in full swing. Cameron and his over-zealous expenses claiming buddies are planning a new law that will see smoking areas banned in the near future so that social smokers aren't prompted to light up......errr what!

DAILY NAIL // "I'm in love with a statue"

That's right people, this silly bitch is totally in love with 3 foot 'Hans'. Apparently being in a relationship for the past 6 months has changed everything for the ludicrously named, Reighner Deleighnie because she's able to imagine them walking hand in hand through meadows and the miniature Adonis is able to listen to her for hours blabbering on about her feelings. 

Apparently this isn't the first time a total nutter has fallen in love with an object. Eva K from the Netherlands has managed to fall in love with a few phrases and words but if that wasn't absurd enough she's fallen head over heels for a hydraulic flood barrier and a floating crane. Interestingly the Daily Mail doesn't link to these stories anywhere and a Google search brings up nothing, I reckon the 'journalist' on this piece, Rachel Straus has been smoking crack in her loft again.

Please Daily Mail, keep this crap coming.

We've taken it upon ourselves to read the whole thing for you, therefore removing the pain and mental numbingness associated with doing so and then spit out the best of the worst....if that makes sense.

I've got a pretty unusual daily dog for you guys today. This pretty amazing threaded animation of a dog running has been created by Atlanta based Aubrey Longley-Cook whos tag line is, "Give us this day our daily thread and lead us knot into temptation"....nice. Longley-Cook has actually managed to breath a bit of fresh air into, and I use the term loosely, the 'sewing scene'. If you were wondering what the front of this piece of work looks like it's here. 

Although he hasn't blogged consistently for awhile check through his back catalogue as he's got some very interesting work.

YELLOWDOG PRESENTS // MACKIE

'Various Assets' is a collection of some of the music that was made during the Red Bull Music Academy during four autumn weeks in Madrid last year. The double CD contains 35 tracks composed, improvised and discovered by the 60 international participants and ten studio team members, who all got their fingers dirty on synths, Mellotrons, vibraphones, drum machines and anything else they could lay their hands on. Enjoy!

VIDEO \\ THE CITY OF SAMBA

Here at yellowdog we love tiltshift videos and this one is certainly up there with the best. A beautifully shot video of the 2011 Rio Carnival put together by Jarbas Agnelli and Keith Loutit. These guys spent 5 days over carnival weekend taking a staggering 167,978 photos to create this masterpiece.

Look out for a bizarre sea rescue using a helicopter and a net, the Grim Reaper's ship, King Kong and an army of Storm Troopers.

Wow, wow, wow! What a fucking brilliantly crafted tune. The moody beats and sumptuous vocals have made this track shoot to my current number one tune! I would recommend turning the lights off, the bass up and let this one go. Scintillating!

What a beautifully crafted remix by Hot Since 82 onto of an already stonker of a original by Toky. Go and show them some support. Great things expected!

The Tribes' Clothing are a masterful Nottingham based brand who dominate the in the canvas and mural realm. They are said to be inspired by ourselves being the tribes of today, also inherating the passion for rhythm & art from our ancesters 'the tribes...

In my eyes they have managed to perfectly mastermind the definition of art, especially encapsulating the Nottingham vibe. Their combination of vibrant colours, tribal influences and the off the cuff ability to design almost anywhere. This partnered with live music, honestly you could not ask for more. 

Through popular demand (although none was needed!) They have finally been made into some tees and I think you will agree that this one is a stonker....i am certainly looking forward to the next release which they will hopefully have in a number of colours!

I saw this video a while back and loved it. After watching one of my favorite Pixar movies 'Up' I decided to track it down and share it with you all. But with almost 6 million views I'm sure most have already seen this. 

It's created by VJ and producer Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo. He uses little snippets and sound bites from the movie or TV show to create these master pieces.

What do you get when you put twelve dogs, some tennis balls, a swimming pool and an awesome photographer together?

This....

Photographer Seth Casteel held an impressive photo shoot in an LA swimming pool photographing a variety of dogs diving in after their beloved tennis balls and created some of the best dog photos I've seen in a while. All of these are worthy daily dogs in my eyes.
