YELLOWDOG PRESENTS // MACKIE

'Various Assets' is a collection of some of the music that was made during the Red Bull Music Academy during four autumn weeks in Madrid last year. The double CD contains 35 tracks composed, improvised and discovered by the 60 international participants and ten studio team members, who all got their fingers dirty on synths, Mellotrons, vibraphones, drum machines and anything else they could lay their hands on. Enjoy!

This is my minimix I threw together so you know the awesomeness that lies with this free download.

VIDEO \\ THE CITY OF SAMBA

Here at yellowdog we love tiltshift videos and this one is certainly up there with the best. A beautifully shot video of the 2011 Rio Carnival put together by Jarbas Agnelli and Keith Loutit. These guys spent 5 days over carnival weekend taking a staggering 167,978 photos to create this masterpiece.

Look out for a bizarre sea rescue using a helicopter and a net, the Grim Reaper's ship, King Kong and an army of Storm Troopers.

TUNE OF THE DAY // TOKY - ABOUT YOU (HOT SINCE 82 REMIX)

Wow, wow, wow! What a fucking brilliantly crafted tune. The moody beats and sumptuous vocals have made this track shoot to my current number one tune! I would recommend turning the lights off, the bass up and let this one go. Scintillating!

What a beautifully crafted remix by Hot Since 82 onto of an already stonker of a original by Toky. Go and show them some support. Great things expected!

CLOTHING // THE TRIBES

The Tribes' Clothing are a masterful Nottingham based brand who dominate the in the canvas and mural realm. They are said to be inspired by ourselves being the tribes of today, also inherating the passion for rhythm & art from our ancesters 'the tribes...

In my eyes they have managed to perfectly mastermind the definition of art, especially encapsulating the Nottingham vibe. Their combination of vibrant colours, tribal influences and the off the cuff ability to design almost anywhere. This partnered with live music, honestly you could not ask for more.

Through popular demand (although none was needed!) They have finally been made into some tees and I think you will agree that this one is a stonker....i am certainly looking forward to the next release which they will hopefully have in a number of colours!

Be sure to check out their canvas work over here or pick up their latest tee over at mimm.

POGO // UPular REMIX

I saw this video a while back and loved it. After watching one of my favorite Pixar movies 'Up' I decided to track it down and share it with you all. But with almost 6 million views I'm sure most have already seen this.

It's created by VJ and producer Nick Bertke, better known as Pogo. He uses little snippets and sound bites from the movie or TV show to create these master pieces.

Here's a list of some others that he has created:

PHOTOGRAPHY \\ UNDERWATER DOGS

What do you get when you put twelve dogs, some tennis balls, a swimming pool and an awesome photographer together?

This....

Photographer Seth Casteel held an impressive photo shoot in an LA swimming pool photographing a variety of dogs diving in after their beloved tennis balls and created some of the best dog photos I've seen in a while. All of these are worthy daily dogs in my eyes.

Seth, if I lived in LA I would knocking on your door to get some photos taken of my pooch jumping in and out of a pool, this stuff is just awesome. Head on over to his website or facebook page to find out more.

TUNE OF THE DAY // DO YOU BELIEVE - POOLSIDE

I picked up this gorgeous tune from Chris Coco's Lazy Summer volume 2 mix. The mix itself is has a seriously funky and laid back feel but the stand out tune for me is definitely, 'Do You Believe' by Poolside. Poolside are a duo consisting of a Danish producer and bass player for Ima Robot, Filip Nikolic and the aptly named Jeremy Paradise who previously moonlighted for The Calculators with Luke Jenner and Vico Roccoforte who are now busying themselves with The Rapture. With such an impressive C.V from both the LA based musicians, I strongly recommend keeping tabs on their tumblr for updates on what's next.

The full Chris Coco mix which is definitely worth a listen can be found below and there is absolutely no chance you will be disappointed. Enjoy the weekend and I may be back later today with a new feature for the blog and quite possibly a whole new look....all dependant on how much FIFA I can take.

TUNE OF THE DAY // LATYRX - LADY DON'T TEK NO

Just how do songs like this slip the funk net! Well it slipped mine anyway. Latyrx's groove, 'Lady Don't Tek No' is from way back in 1997 and contains beautifully gravelised vocals and a smart back beat, it's even got double hand claps which become infectious. Latyrx hail from California and consist of Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth who originally founded and worked on the underground hip hop label Quannum (formely know as Solesides) after meeting with the likes of DJ Shadow and the future Blackalicious team on California's University student radio, basically their musical heritage is second to none. Enjoy...

MUSIC // MIKE SKINNER FACE MIX 304

Time for a tune or in this case a mash of tunes to carry us through the weekend. Now we all know Mike Skinner can sing and write lyrics in his bedroom, but I for one never had him down as mix artist but it's not actually that surprising really. Skinner effortlessly moves from the expected garage and house beats before dropping some tunes from Joy Orbison and Joker. I personally wouldn't say he's picked the greatest tunes about but this is definitely a decent mix to have on in your automobile and it's got Al Stewart's, 'Year of the Cat' in there somewhere which is a well repeated tune in the shed.

The full write up for the mix including a track list can be found on the pretty impressive Fact Magazine website which has a huge archive of mixes you can download, well worth taking a look at....just remember to come back here as well ;)

KIDS AND STICKERS // THE OBLITERATION ROOM

Ever wondered what a completely white room would look like if you gave a tonne of stickers to some kids and let them do what they wanted over two weeks? Well I personally haven't ever thought about it but I'm definitely please Yayoi Kusama did because it makes for some pretty impressive pictures. Her amazing idea was an installation at the Queensland Gallery of Modern Art where visitors to the gallery of the smaller variety were encouraged to stick the colourful stickers wherever they liked!

We've also got some pretty colourful clothing over at our shop.... shameless plug but what the hell.
