TUNE OF THE DAY // D.F.T.F - NEED FOR MIRRORS

This popped up on my news feed and I had a little eargasm as a result. This is a bad tune, and brought back many memories of sweat laden darkened rooms listening to the filthiest drum and bass for hours on end. Already looking into booking tickets for the next night!

Dont fight the feeling.

DOGS // DOGS IN CARS

This video goes out to all those dogs who know what sticking their head out of moving car feels like. For those who don’t, just watch these crazy pooches and you’ll soon know.

I can also recommend this as a tried and test hangover cure and as it's Saturday i'm sure some of you will be needing this.

TUNE OF THE DAY // SEBASTIEN TELLIER - KILOMETER

Sebastien, yes I am on first name terms with possibly the coolest looking hybrid of David Guetta and Justin Lee Collins (minus the facts they are both twats, but on the look front anyway.)

This is another beautiful song and awesome video from Sebastien to follow on from our previous La Ritournelle post.

I decided to give a double dose of tune of the day, and provide the awesome version by Aeroplane the 'Italo 84' remix. You can fully understand the natural progression this song took on.

VIDEO // DOGS TEARING UP A PARK

There's something quite therapeutic about watching these dogs barge about a park biting each other but there's also that little voice in my head growling, "go on...get him...jump him" or maybe that's just me? On that note I'm off to Bruges for the weekend.

Whilst I'm away take a look at our fancy shop and keep checking back as we've got loads of new products being add on the 1st of Feb.

ILLUSTRATOR // CLARE MALLISON

I have a little treat for you on this fine British Wednesday, an illustrator by the name of Clare Mallison. I was first drawn to the attention of Clare's work a few years ago and always loved it's effortless ease at creating interest and closer study of what could possibly be conceived as everyday objects or scenarios and I reckon illustration as an art form probably dates back to when our ancestors were graffiting and tagging cave walls to impress Wilma and Betty.

Clare has drawn all her life and went on to study illustration at Kingston University graduating in 2004. Whilst completing her course she discovered a passion for drawing whilst on location which enables her to really get a feel of whats in front of her. Using a mixture of pen, ink, pencil and marker pens from her studio in East London, Clare has an ever increasing list of prestigious clients ranging from Marie Claire and Rolling Stone to The Guardian and The Times.

Clare's website is well worth checking out so don't be surprised if you end up clicking through her whole back catalogue and if you're interested in seeing more of her work then definitely subscribe to her blog which is updated on a regular basis. Below are some of my favourites, enjoy...

You can also visit Claire's shop to pick up your very own reasonably priced print....I did and it's now all framed up and waiting for some wall space to live on.

RELAX // SUNDAY CHILL

It's Sunday, the day of rest and what better way to relax than to kick back, eat some chill cake and get lost in music.

According to 'SCIENCE' the tune Weightless by Marconi Union is the perfect track to help you relax. A study commissioned by Radox Spa hooked 40 women up to some sensors and gave them stress related puzzles to solve against the clock while playing them a range or 'Relaxing Songs'. They measured blood pressure, heart rate, breathing and brain activity and this was the result.

In case you were wondering the study found the top ten most relaxing tracks to be;

Obviously they missed one because Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax surely has to be the most relaxing tune, it says it in the title.

R.I.P Etta James. Your music has inspired generations of soul and blues singers.

KOOTENAY INFLUENCE // 50" POWDER

In the UK last winter the country was completely covered in lovely white snow, people couldn't go to work for days and kids were sledging on about 2 inches of it for weeks....that was nothing. This video shows Dylan Siggers and his end-of-ski-pole mounted GoPro camera taking to what looks like about 50 inches of some of the most epic powder ever with Miami Horror in the background! Cleverly shot and edited this is well worth a watch. Anyone for a bit of late season snow?...

If you are actually getting some late European snow then you're probably going to need one of these....we've only a got a handful left so be quick!

TUNE OF THE DAY // JAZZ NEVERSLEEPS - LADBROKE GROVE

Only heard about him a few days ago - but have been unable to stop playing his tracks. It is once again Belgium proving a powerhouse in the underground music scene with Jazz Neversleeps taking on a series of persona's which consist of late night house, early morning groove and vocal sublimity. He has gained support from the master Omar S, and Belgiums living legend Lefto, who I quite often catch on Studio Brussels despite not speaking an ounce of Dutch.

Make sure you check out Jazz Neversleeps label on-point, founded only in 2010 - but every single release to date has been sublime. A name to remember.

Jazz Neversleeps will feature here more often - My aim is to get him involved in yellowdog. presents //

A beautiful yet slightly disconcerting picture. A dog acting like everything is normal, outrageously lush green grass (proving the grass is greener) and also some top quality sky porn.....I need to walk here.

TUNE OF THE DAY // MAM - CRUSHED ICE

For those who do not know MAM, its about time you did. MAM consists of Miguel Campbell and Matt Hughes, who have been the pioneers behind some of the last night disco tunes that have allowed you to make it to 8am on the weekends. Our melodic favourite is Crushed ice, which is a cool disco-house drink with a slice of funk.

IKEA // THE SWEDISH REVOLUTION

My family outing to IKEA this weekend once again reaffirmed my love for the Swedish revolution. A 3 hour orienting session, 2 trolleys, 500 pounds, 20 meatballs, and a full car later we were finally done. Once home the next 4 hours consisted of me bent over a pile of chipboard and formica with a trusty allen key creating a masterpiece. This got me thinking; if something this simple could transform a room just imagine what you could do with it in an underground station….

It turns out someone has already imagined just that. Only last week creative agency Ubi Bene erected “the apartment” in Auber Metro station in Paris. A fully furnished space comprising only of IKEA furniture was created to highlight its compatibility in small spaces. As if that wasn't cool enought they then went all Big Brother and had 5 people live in the apartment going about their daily routines while their fellow Parisians happily commuted to work. I don't seem to remember IKEA being big on it's plumbing so I assume these guys didn't actual go to the toilet or have a shower.

The project is called “The IKEA Apartment - 54 Square-Meter Ideas to Life,”. Check out this little montage video of the creation process to see what a neat idea this is.

Check out the IKEA France youtube channel for little snippets of how the 5 got on. Once you've done that head on over to our shop and see what we got.

YELLOWDOG. PRESENTS // AJA

yellowdog. presents // is a new feature from us to you. We all know of the definitive links between clothing  and music and vice versa. Without one, we wouldnt have the other. This is certainly the case at yellowdog HQ, music has been the master behind the hours we spend printing, losing our once sane minds in the depths of an insomniac trance.

We aim to showcase the finest music and mixes from the mean streets of the UK, and further afield to the sun filled beaches to the polar ice caps.

In our first installment we bring you AJA.

AJA Ireland hails from Nottingham and has applied her musical prowess to the ever growing Nottingham night life. This coupled with her undoubtedly talented graphical ability is a recipe for success, so we are very proud to present AJA and her brilliantly named eargasm of a mix 'Mortal Kumquat'

You can check out her music at her soundcloud and her artwork over at her blog.

TUNE OF THE DAY // SEBASTIEN TELLIER - LA RITOURNELLE

The weekend is upon us so we need a tune to listen to, so here we have a tune that should definitely be played every Friday, actually I think it should be played everyday!

Sebastien Tellier is a French electronic artist who has worked with the likes of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Chris from Daft Punk and also colooborated with Mr. Oizo. With a serious back catalogue of music Sebastien's reach and understanding of music is vast. Well worth downloading all his work this weekend for some serious foot tappage.

Now I've played this tune for the 10th consecutive time....it's pub time. Whilst I'm gone you are more than welcome to head over to our store and take advantage of our free postage.

MUSIC // DOGSTEP

I'm not a massive fan boy of dub step.....'dog step' on the other hand is quality! Check K-9's introduction to dog step and what makes him bark. With the sad and unexpected loss of K-9 shortly after this was filmed (tongues in cheeks) I believe the true founder of dog step has created a quite a legacy. Enjoy...

DAILY DOG

'Peter' is parading his magnificent haul from Farmer Browns garden. Oh, casually disguised as a rabbit, if you didn't catch on.

DESIGN // MEETING THE KNIVES

I am continually amazed at how some people can turn an everyday mundane product into a sleek and stylish work of art. Being a fan of uber-cool kitchen products my eye was drawn to this amazing set of kitchen knives which I don’t need as I have a perfectly good set already but after seeing the pictures below ‘I want’.

This knife set, manufactured by Deglon is called ‘Meeting’ and was designed by Mia Schmallenbach. It won first prize at the 5th European Cutlery Design Awards. I didn’t know there was such a thing either but sign me up for the 6th. The set contains a paring, carving, filleting and Chef’s knife that all nest seamlessly together to give the impression they are a single block of steel.  Actually thinking about it, it looks like a knife version of the frozen Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back.

If you also love this set and have a spare £700 - £800 then head on over to Amazon sharpish! There are some pretty good customer reviews to check out, this being one of my favourite.

“You know how you instinctively move your foot when a sharp knife falls over the edge of the counter? With Deglon's stack of four sharp knives, now you have little chance of escaping without a deep laceration or puncture wound.”

Chopping some veg with these knives makes you look cool but chopping veg with these knives while wearing yellowdog makes you even cooler so head on over to our shop now.

TUNE OF THE DAY // Jean Jacques Smoothie ft Tara Busch - 2 People (DCUP Remix)

Bringing you an incredible remix of a house classic. Back in 2001, I had no idea how house music would shape me and become my very foundation. House music has been ever prevalent in our printing business, the blissful beats have turned us into a state of subconsciousness that allows us to print well into the early hours of the morning.

I hope you enjoy this tune and that is warrants the repeat plays it deserves. Without you house, yellowdog would not be where it is today.

TUNE OF THE DAY // BTS HEY LADY

For tune of the day I've been toying about blogging the irrepressible Justin Beiber's mock reggae Mistletoe tune...however I've sensibly settled with something leagues ahead in the 'cool' stakes.

So here we've got one of my favourite tunes from Balance and the Travelling Sounds, 'Hey Lady'. BTS are a total powerhouse of soul, funk, jazz and hip-hop inspired grooves from a vast array of backgrounds and styles. Releasing there first album, 'Travel Guide Volume 1' back in 2009 to critical acclaim BTS have now released their latest, 'Departure EP' which as expected, is pure class. Delivering classic beats and smooth bass lines with effortless hip-hop and lyric sampling this really is one to check out. Enjoy...

DAILY DOG

You old dog, You! Seems to me that even in the olden days dogs were repping the 5 panel cap. Keep an eye out for these. In the meantime I wonder what 'Howard' would look like in our bobble hat, or you for that matter.

ART // 3.2 MILLION DOT HERO

Have you ever drawn a picture?, "yes". Have you ever drawn a picture using 3.2million dots?, "no, why would I do that?".....because it looks amazing! Miguel Endara took 210 hours to complete his masterpiece titled, 'Hero' using his trusty Sakura pen. The piece was named after Miguel's own hero, his Dad and the completed artwork and stylish video are well worth taking a look at. I probably know quite a few people that have lifted their hand up and down over 3.2million times but it definitely never results in a picture you would want to frame.

If you want to pick up one of Miguel's limited edition prints you can purchase them here and if you still haven't been over to our store then do it!
